Mirka Farabegoli e Jose Witteveen, artiste legate entrambe all’Italia e all’Olanda, durante la loro residenza ad amaneï condurranno ricerche e studieranno l’isola di Salina.

È visibile una sovrapposizione di tematiche e tecniche nel lavoro delle due artiste: l’interesse per il racconto e la narrazione fa sì che la figura umana assuma spesso un ruolo centrale nei loro lavori. La Witteveen trae ispirazione dalle conversazioni che intrattiene con le persone che incontra quotidianamente (come ad esempio per le strade di Roma). Il lavoro della Farabegoli consiste spesso nella commistione, da una parte, di racconti popolari e tradizionali, dall’altra, degli assurdi simboli della società moderna. L’assurdo, il non-lineare e gli elementi inspiegabili della cultura umana costituiscono la sua fonte di ispirazione.

Le tecnica dell’acquaforte è da sempre al centro della pratica delle due artiste, ma anche altri media quali la fotografia, il disegno e la performance crescono costantemente nella loro attività. Durante il loro soggiorno a Salina, con un approccio libero e curioso, sviluperrano un progetto articolato in due momenti: la prima fase è dedicata al lavoro sul campo di ricerca e di raccolta di materiale (illustrativo, fotografico, audiovisivo); la seconda fase, invece, successiva alla loro partenza, è rivolta alla realizzazione delle opere, frutto dell’interpretazione personale della loro esperienza sull’isola.

Mirka Farabegoli and Jose Witteveen, artists connected to both Italy and the Netherlands, will conduct research and study the island of Salina during their residency at Amaneï.

There is an overlap of themes and techniques in the work of the two artists: their interest in storytelling and narration often places the human figure at the center of their works. Witteveen draws inspiration from conversations she has with people she meets daily (such as on the streets of Rome). Farabegoli’s work often involves a blending of folk and traditional stories on one hand, and absurd symbols of modern society on the other. The absurd, the non-linear, and the inexplicable elements of human culture are her sources of inspiration.

The technique of etching has always been central to the practice of both artists, but other media such as photography, drawing, and performance also continuously grow in their work. During their stay in Salina, with a free and curious approach, they will develop a project in two stages: the first phase is dedicated to field research and the collection of material (illustrative, photographic, audiovisual); the second phase, after their departure, focuses on the creation of the works, the result of their personal interpretation of their experience on the island.
